Custom rainwater harvest system for waste disposal
In this critical facilities upgrade, Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) existing occupied building underwent a complete interior and exterior renovation. Work included major seismic improvements, substantial sitework and code-required upgrades. The project included office space for 300 users, a commercial kitchen with a trellised patio, 250-person dividable meeting room, six conference rooms, bathroom shower and locker facilities, warehouse space, gas appliance training facility, pressure control testing lab, fitness center, and flex meeting space. Exterior skin and roof, along with the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems were all replaced, and an 11,000-gallon rainwater harvest system was added.
One vital component was keeping PSE’s IT room running during the entire project, so our team built a facility in the middle of an active construction site to house highly sensitive equipment. Uninterrupted power had to be provided, and we meticulously protected equipment supporting PSE’s energy delivery for our region from the extensive construction activity. During construction, employees that couldn’t relocate to other PSE facilities were moved to onsite temporary workstations that remained active during construction.
Unusual safety challenges included the potentially hazardous and dangerous natural gas lines that ran through the site, which restricted the type of equipment and construction methods that could be used. Alternative construction methods and clear direction to all workers were achieved due to our team’s successful leadership and communication.
