Orion is a 129-unit Salmon Safe certified project occupying a quarter-block in South Lake Union, opposite Olmstead’s Denny Park. The park serves as a primary design reference point for the building. Landscaping, outdoor seating and a planted canopy provides overhead weather protection and extends the greenery of the park across the street.

The project shared a property line with another project under construction, and we coordinated our street use plans with two other contractors who were performing work on adjacent sides of our site. Daily communication with neighboring contractors prevented safety and logistics conflicts in construction activities.

The early and ongoing construction collaboration minimized right-of-way and site disruption and reduced the City’s review time. The close cooperation resulted in a plan for alternating workdays in a fall hazard zone. We took advantage of one contractor’s alley closure to perform our work more efficiently and safely. The efforts by each contractor resulted in mutual benefit for all.
