7000 Campus Living is the first student housing facility at Shoreline Community College. After nearly a decade in planning, it expanded the former commuter campus into a living-learning community where affordable higher education and housing coalesce. The 86,000 SF building was constructed in the heart of Shoreline’s 83-acre campus and features 68 fully furnished apartment-style units holding 216 student beds, along with multiple amenity spaces.
The project faced a funding shortage and potential cancellation unless substantial savings could be found. Our value engineering efforts on just one corner of the project saved $1,700,000.
Delays in permitting required further analysis to be sure the project could be completed by the start of school. We found multiple opportunities, both large and small, to accelerate the schedule, streamlining team communication in the process. In addition, a street frontage improvement project was unexpectedly added to the work with only six months remaining in the schedule.
Our ability to partner with the project team, the College, and the State to navigate tough challenges and deliver 7000 Campus Living ahead of schedule and within budget made it possible for students from all over the world to move into an affordable living environment, beginning a new chapter at the College.
